Detailed description of the project

The Scientific Research and Academic Writing Workshops project is an interactive educational platform that aims to enable students and researchers in Syria to acquire basic skills in scientific research and academic writing through practical and applied training provided by a select group of Syrian and international researchers from inside and outside Syria.

The project includes two basic training workshops:

  • An online workshop that allows participants from different Syrian provinces to learn and participate remotely.
  • An in-person workshop in Syria focusing on practical application and direct interaction with experts.

The workshops cover a variety of topics, including research methodologies, study design, literature review, scientific writing, and training in the use of artificial intelligence tools and open resources to support scientific research.

Reason for launching the project

This project comes in response to the significant challenges faced by researchers in Syria, from a lack of systematic training and poor access to resources and scientific journals, to the impact of political and economic conditions on educational institutions.
The project aims to bridge this gap and provide a supportive environment for young researchers to help them develop their skills and contribute to local and global scientific production.

Solutions offered by the project

  • Offering specialized training workshops in scientific research and academic writing.
  • Providing hands-on training by experienced researchers from Syria and Germany.
  • Ongoing support for participants through research guidance and supervision.
  • Improving the quality of research and increasing opportunities for scientific publication.
  • Integrating artificial intelligence tools and open resources to facilitate access to information.

Expected outputs and results

  • Train more than 100 participants in scientific research.
  • Significant increase in scientific publication rates among participants.
  • Prepare a database of young Syrian research projects.
  • Establish a research network connecting students and professors locally and internationally.
  • Review at least 20 research papers during the first year of the project.

Target group

  • Undergraduate and graduate students in Syria.
  • Early-career researchers in various disciplines.
  • Faculty members wishing to develop their research skills.

The project aims to achieve a tangible impact by training more than 100 participants during its first year, contributing to improving the quality of university research, increasing scientific publication rates, creating a database of promising research projects, and building a network of cooperation between students and professors inside and outside Syria.

The uniqueness of the project lies in its combination of practicality and rigorous academic content, presented in a flexible manner that is accessible to all interested parties, whether online or in person. It also focuses on specific scientific disciplines and uses modern training tools such as artificial intelligence technologies, making it a unique and comprehensive educational experience. Through these workshops, participants gain applicable research skills, opportunities for academic guidance and collaboration, and certificates of participation that enhance their academic resumes. Most importantly, they gain confidence in their ability to write and publish sound scientific research in specialized journals, becoming active members of the global scientific community.
